I am pleased to announce that RIPS has given us a solution! To clarify, it IS an infringement to use pop songs from 14 recording labels below in your videos. It doesnt matter whether you are playing back at a private function (hotel ballrooms ARE NOT private). Please dun question me on the definations, call up RIPS for your queries. All I know is, we are allowed to use up to 3 songs per SDE and distribute them to the couple and any relatives, close friends the couple desires. And sorry, you cant put up the video on Facebook, Youtube or even your blog. You need to call the record label to pay a case by case price hor.

And the BILL is ??? $2000 per annum per videographer

So folks, music is not free. We have to pay so if you like to use pop songs, I’m afriad you have to pay too. Of couse it is up to the individual video production companies to absorb or distribute the cost. Some like me, will be offering alternative solutions to reduce your already hefty wedding expenses.
Aiyoh but what are our charges compared to photographers?? We spend 16hrs on the AD (we go back to do SDE for 6hrs while others go back to rest), 20hrs minimum for post production, pay 2x the amount for video equipment and get 1/2 the salary. (Sorry can’t help digging)

Joshua + Evangelyn SDE

Location: The Regent Hotel
PG: Chia Perg Jon (Red Dot Photo)

Nice weather again but unfortunately I had a sight injury so movement was a little slow so I got some extra help.. Today is a real HOT DATE and the JP was only able to make it at 7pm. I have to say the JP really had a different style man! Kinda cool for video taking in a way. The team worked hard to meet the tight schedule but we survived! We were very proud to see the SDE including the solemnization ready by 8.30pm =) Definitely looked like Joshua and Evangelyn enjoyed their sweet wedding!

Rayson + Linda SDE

Location: Hyatt Hotel
PG: Timothy Soh

Rayson is an ex-colleague and it was kinda fun to shoot friends at work. I have not met Linda till that day but I know by now that my friend is a lucky man. Everything was ok except for the 3 storey flight of stairs that my aging back didnt like!

New TOY!!

Hmm I’m sick today.. BUT, this new toy in my hand is pretty sexy and hard to ignore!!! Sorry I reveal what it is but you will know very soon…

James + Keryn SDE

Location: Four Seasons Hotel
PG: Michael (Expressively joho)

It was a lovely day and this was quite a last minute job on Michael’s recommendation. I worked 16hrs in a row and I was totally KO by the end of it. I must say I enjoyed working with James and Keryn. The lovely doveyness was oh so STRONG. Thanks for putting up with my request for the “bed scene”. All the best guys and thank you for all the wonderful encouragement! Photo courtesy of Michael.

Douglas + Yee Teng SDE

Location: Western SG
PG: KC (Greymatter)

Our first job for the new year. Yee Teng was introduced via 3 sources to me! Its a pretty small world but we had fun today. Its been a while since I worked with KC and it was nice =) Photo courtesy of KC.

Copyright Issue Breakthrough!!

Hooray, there is finally a light at the end of the tunnel. Apparantly the RIPS are the ones that responsible for the policing of infringements. I got some real facts that these people DO petrol ballrooms sometimes. Anyway, they have finally come up with a solution at quite a price BUT those people who do like 50 – 80 weddings a year would be able to absorb the cost most likely if the base job is reasonably charged. For those like us who do very selective work, its a little hard to swallow but we will definately be on the RIGHT SIDE of the law.

I guess a lot of folks would continue to play hide and seek so be it. The RIPS is not going to stop after getting some $. Offenders beware!

Tiger Year 2010

So its said that TIGER year is not good for weddings. Well, I think it is not an issue. If its time to wed, just do it! Unless your parents threaten to disown you then its a real problem =p

Anyway we are getting quite a few bookings for the beginning of the year but the rest of the year quota is filling up fast too. We have a capacity and principle to limit the number of  shoots because quality is No 1. We do not work on a fixed template and that is the last thing we want to happen. For those who have not made yr bookings for PG and CM, please do so soon as many of our peers are also getting bookings filled up.

Buried in a heap of Backlogs..

With the passing of the major wedding season comes the aftermath of a heap load of backlogs!! For those of you who are new to editing, this is the process of editing the full 1-2hour videos that we deliver. Each video takes a week for me to edit inclusive of the DVD artwork design. The worst are those church weddings whereby 4 cameras are deployed. It is painfully slow but the desire to deliver something watchable is my priority. Unfortunately this time consuming work is mostly unrecognised with many calls of “is my video ready?” but we do understand the need to have your videos yesterday.

We will be working hard while coping with this month’s jobs as well way till Feb 2010.
